Starr Petronella, a classmate of mine, posted about GlakLove on Etsy. Angelyn Pass of Atlanta, GA, makes jewelry and ornaments by cutting up old film negatives to create new images. I absolutely love it all!

Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival

Today, I went to the Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival in Thomasville, GA with my mom and grandma. We walked around and viewed all the paintings and sculptures, etc. by all the different artists, and got to see some of them in action. I really enjoyed several of the artists and thought I'd tell you about them.

Edit: Transform

Jeremy Barton, a classmate and friend of mine, posted a video by Zack Arias, a former graduate of Gwinnett Technical College's photo program. The video was created for Scott Kelby's blog. It is a great video that really helps me when I am feeling like giving up. You should definitely watch it!

My You Tube Channel

I now have a You Tube channel with my work from last quarter's Multimedia 1 class. I haven't put everything on it yet, but stay tuned and keep checking for new videos!

Photo Essay

For Photojournalism, our final project is to do a photo essay. We have to take a series of photographs that tell a story which will also be narrated in a three minute time period. My project is on my great aunt's mother, Mrs. Park, a 105 year old. She is an amazing woman; they both are. So many wonderful, interesting stories, and still the memory to tell them.

Got my holiday portrait! You should too!

Tonight, my brother and his dog Cooper came in to get their holiday portrait taken on our set! I decided I'd go pose with them since he's my twin. :) Cooper definitely stole the show; he is so precious. Jealous, aren't you?

PhotoCatcher on Etsy

I found a photographer, Paul Harrett, on Etsy who does some beautiful landscape photography. He does HDR, macro,  and infrared. He likes to hike and camp in remote areas and of course, photograph them, which is something I would like to do someday. Check him out!

Fill Flash Photoshoot

Our next Photojournalism assignment is to use fill flash. I tried and failed a few times this weekend, but I was lucky enough to have amazing friends, Jeremy Barton and Starr Petronella, help me achieve a better photograph. We had a lot of fun and hopefully I got my shot!

Road Trip In December

So like a lot of people, I love road trips. After all the hard work I've been doing at school, I am going to treat myself to a vacation for several days in December. I will take my boyfriend with me, and we will hopefully be going to states I've never been to before. With portfolio in mind, I hope to get lots of awesome and unique pictures on our journey. Now all I gotta do is figure out where we are going... Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Ohio, I just don't know. Any suggestions?

It's time to get your holiday portrait!

After weeks of preparation, the Holiday Portrait set is complete and the portraits have begun. I found this photographer, Clement Sainte-Rose, on Flickr. He has a lot of nature photographs that I absolutely love.  He gets in really close and has a lot of design and color qualities that make the picture amazing. He has just beautiful work that I recommend you check out.

Internship Etiquette

Since we photography students have our internship coming up in the Spring, I thought I'd share an article I found through Mac-On-Campus. It tells what to do and what not to do when interning for a commercial photography company. It shares advice for both sides of the internship (intern and company), so read up and get prepared!

Christopher Capozziello

On a blog called Lenscratch, there's a post about photographer Christopher Capozziello. It highlights some stories he has told through his photography. One story is about his twin brother living with Cerebral Palsy and another is about the KKK. These are very powerful stories which have inspired ideas for my photo essay (our final project in Photojournalism). Photojournalism: Environmental Portrait

For our next Photojournalism assignment we had to photograph someone in their environment. I chose to do my brother in his work environment at Tires Plus. I followed him around the shop as he answered phone calls, priced items, got tires, and worked on cars. It was fun getting to see him at work, a side of him I haven't seen before.

The Art of Food Photography

Inspired by a post by fellow student Teresa Hewitt, I decided to check out food photography. I found this video on YouTube which tells about the process of shooting food to make you hungry. It's an interesting, behind the scenes look at the photographer, chef, and food stylist. Check it out below!

National Geographic: Tarpon and Silversides

I find this picture pretty awesome. It was photographed by Mike Sutton Brown, and I discovered it in National Geographic's Photo of the Day Archive. It grabbed my attention because of the design elements it includes. There is emphasis on the tarpon in the center of all the silversides, repetition in the silversides, and unity between the big fish and little fish. I think it is a great anticipated shot and a beautiful one.

My sister, who has been student teaching in Australia for the past few months, sent me a link to this photographer, Craig Lamotte, in Australia. He has very beautiful photographs of a variety of landscapes that'll just take your breath away. Take a look!

Through the Viewfinder Photography

On Etsy I found a photographer who does something called "Through the Viewfinder Photography." She explains it as follows:

"Through the Viewfinder photography is defined as taking a picture of any subject through the viewfinder of any camera with another camera."

I think this is an interesting approach to taking a picture, and adds an alluring, vintage-y look to the image. Might be a new thing to try!

Skydiving Photography

So I recently posted about aerial photography, but I think this is even cooler! I have always wanted to go skydiving, and I think it would definitely be a fun experience to photograph. I decided to search for skydiving photography and found some awesome pictures!

How To Capture Architectural Details in a Photograph

I found this video on YouTube that tells how to photograph the character of a building. As the photographer you must capture the details of the building that the architect intended in his design, revealing its unique qualities. I love the shapes, lines, and other elements of design that are created by a brilliant architectural photograph.

Final Low Key

A low key portrait of Geena has been chosen, edited, and printed. My teacher felt that I should have had her wear long sleeves to prevent the distracting skin (agreed). Since we aren't allowed to re-shoot until after critique, I worked some Photoshop magic and added a sleeve myself. Of course, it is not perfect, but I did what I could with the time I had. Below is the before and after.

Linda Plaisted tweeted a link to this article which tells what photographers wish they were taught in photo school. I checked it out and found it very good to know, especially since I'm still in school. Fellow students and I can try to learn these things while we still have the opportunity!

Aerial Photography

While I was walking around taking pictures of Cherokee Lake Park in Thomasville, I was stopped by a couple who asked me about my photography. The woman told me about her husband's career as a portrait and commercial photographer before he became a horse farmer. He told me a lot of interesting things about himself including that he used to do aerial photography.

I had never thought about aerial photography before, but after hearing his experience with it, it sounds very fun and interesting to me. I looked up some aerial photographers and am impressed by the design and perspective of these types of photographs. I would love to try this one day!

My Sisters Overseas

For the past few months, my sister Jennifer has been in Darwin, Australia for student teaching through UGA. She is in her last week of school this week, so her next agenda is to meet up with my other sister Amanda who will be flying out tomorrow. They will meet up in Cairns and also be going to Sydney before heading back home. I am very jealous. I really wish I could go too and get some awesome pictures, but unfortunately time and money do not permit.

My Weekend in Thomasville

I always love going down to Thomasville, GA to visit my grandparents and relatives. It is so relaxing and beautifull there, plus I get to eat good ol' southern style meals cooked by my grandma. I probably gained 5 pounds just from this weekend, but it's totally worth it.

Don't Forget...

The Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2010 Festival has come to an end. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a few of these events and enjoyed them all! My absolute favorite lecture had to be Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor's due to their amazing work and awesome personalities!

Although the Festival has concluded, some artwork is still being exhibited through November, and one lecture was postponed until December 9th. Mark Steinmetz will be having his lecture from 7-9 that night. He does black and white photography of unique subjects from interesting perspectives. Be sure to check him out!
