Ghost Town

Since it is Halloween, I thought I'd share about an exhibition called Ghost Town. It features photography by Terry Check in the Paige Harvey Art Studio through this Saturday, November 6th. These photographs include wreckage from tropical storms in the Salton Sea, and reveal the emotion behind its destruction. Not much time left to see it, so hurry over to Atlanta!

Day of the Dead

Young Blood Gallery & Boutique is featuring over 75 artists in their gallery for the Day of the Dead show. The show started yesterday and will go through November 27th. Artwork includes custom works on mini coffins. The work looks amazing! Definitely check it out!

Joachim Knill

Joachim Knill is a photographer that I found out about in high school, and I fell in love with his work. He designed and built a 20" x 30" instant film camera which he uses to photograph surreal scenes set up in his studio. He uses painting with light techniques in one long exposure to give each scene its brillant colors. He also uses fruits, vegetables, and other organic materials to create interesting shapes and textures. Take a look!

Thomasville, GA

This weekend I am going down south to Thomasville, GA. This historic town is where my dad grew up, along with generations before him. It is a beautiful city full of things to do and sights to see. It is also home to my paternal side of the family so I have been visiting it for my entire life, and there is always something new and gorgeous to photograph.

Landscape Photographer

I found a landscape photographer who takes beautiful photographs. Nature has always fascinated me, and I would love to be able to capture its brilliance in a photograph. Gale Rainwater definitely does this.

Lens Bling!

On Etsy, I found this awesome camera accessory called "Lens Bling". It is great for getting a child to look at the lens! I think this is super awesome and I may just use it anyway! Ha! Especially the purple owl!

Low Key Photo Shoot

This weeks Advanced Portraiture assignment was to photograph our subject in either high key or low key lighting. I chose to use low key lighting on my twin brother's girlfriend, Geena. After an hour and a half of setting up, we were 30 minutes past my shooting time which was a 30 minute shift at 9:00. Feeling rushed, I was unable to take my time and have fun with it like I wanted to. Below is the result of the photo shoot straight out of my camera.

Feature Hunt #2

On my hunt to find a feature picture today, I decided to drive around Stone Mountain Park. A bunch of people were walking around the mountain for exercise, and I spotted a man carrying a parrot on his arm as he walked. He let me photograph him and his parrot, Romeo. Yes, he is on a leash!

First Feature Hunt

Yesterday I went on a journey to find a feature photo for my next Photojournalism assignment. This is a struggle for me since I am not personable. The one interesting thing I found on my search was a house with extravagant decorations for Halloween. They have been doing this for 15 years, and I caught them on their last year.

Arthur Leipzig

I found a photographer named Arthur Leipzig on the Jackson Fine Art website. He was a documentary photographer, and has work displayed in many galleries in New York. A lot of his stuff look like they could be features. Take a look!

Young Blood Gallery & Boutique

Yesterday I went on an adventure to the Young Blood Gallery & Boutique in Atlanta. Artists Linda Plaisted and Faryn Davis currently have their work exhibited in their gallery. Each had very interesting pieces, however I would have liked to see more of Plaisted's work instead of just the carnival series.

Last Night's Hop

Last night I went to the SCAD Gallery Hop with Jessica, Starr, and Teresa. We saw Kendell Carter and then headed over to the next exhibit, but ended up going to the Dali exhibit at the High Museum. Carter's artwork is really unique and made from ordinary objects. A lot of his work included words and all pieces had an interesting story/meaning behind them. The Dali exhibit was amazing, of course! I can't wait to go back!

Chosen Portrait of EG

A portrait of EG from last week's photoshoot was chosen by my teacher, and I printed it yesterday. Now, all I have to do is mount it and get ready for critique on Monday!

Blue Ridge Parkway

I have been dying to go to Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall season to capture all the gorgeous autumn colors of the changing leaves. Last winter I went to Asheville, NC for a weekend and spent a day driving on Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping to take pictures along the way. Being winter time with no snow, I wasn't happy with most of the pictures I took, though the scenery was beautiful. So, I would love to be able to take a trip up there to photograph it again before all the leaves have fallen!

Artist Nate Moore

Nate Moore is a self-taught artist who creates origami jets out pages of old magazines, science books, and how-to manuals. He arranges the jets in an interesting design using the color and patterns of the pages as an added element. I love the way he uses the principles of design such as unity, repetition, emphasis, color, etc. I think his work would make some cool photographs too!

Mixed Media

Photography and interior design are not my only interests in the art world. I also love to draw, paint, screenprint, etc. Once I finish earning my Commercial Photography degree, I hope to combine my interests and create my own unique mixed media artwork.

Artist Linda Plaisted creates mixed media artwork with her photography, painting, and fine art skills. She is currently exhibited at the Young Blood Gallery & Boutique in Atlanta, GA through October 24. Take a look!

Michael Kenna

I found this photographer, Michael Kenna, through the Jackson Fine Art Gallery website. I love the simplicity of his photographs and the designs the subjects create due to his composition. He has taken photos all over the world including Japan, Italy, and South Korea. His photographs are all black and white and reveal the beauty of nature and structures.

Interior Photography

An interest I have had for as long as I can remember is interior design, and it is a career I have often considered pursuing. Since I also have a love for photography, maybe one day I can combine the two. Irish Photographer Gareth Byrne has awesome photographs of interiors and architecture which I absolutely love.

Uelsmann/Taylor Lecture

Husband and wife photographers Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor presented an entertaining lecture this past Thursday night at Georgia Tech. Both have an impressive and unique style in their artwork which inspires me to expand my own artistry.

Pet Portrait

Our first Advanced Portraiture assignment was to photograph an animal. Jessica Tedone was nice enough to let me photograph her precious Bichon Frise, Daphne. While Daphne was very cooperative, I struggled with the lighting and exposure due to her white fur, but Ms. Finch, Adobe and Jeremy Barton helped me produce the final product.

Aussie Photographer Nick Moir

Australian Photographer Nick Moir takes incredible photographs of unseen things he believes the world should know about. He photographs storms, bushfires, etc., and gets close to the action to provide a new and striking perspective to the viewer, revealing details and emotions from every event.

Child Portraiture

This week's Advanced Portraiture assignment was to photograph a child under age six. I photographed a little 3 and 3/4 year old girl (that's how old she says she is). She is one adorable little child, but was reluctant at times. However, all her mother had to do was tempt her with silly string as a reward if she cooperated. Haha!

Sports Photography

Today I shot two football games for my Photojournalism class assignment. I spent four hours in the blazing hot sun, but I had fun and hopefully got my shot!

ACP Lecture at SCAD

On Wednesday night I went to hear a lecture by photographer Art Streiber at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. Awesome lecture. Truly inspiring and learned a lot. Check him out!
